Bottom & side seal bags
Plastic bags are made by either side sealing or bottom sealing. Side seal bags are made with plastic tube film and are cut in the middle with a knife. The two sides of the bag will be heat-sealed. These bags are used for smaller items like sweets, chips. Bottom seal bags are cut at the bottom of the bag and are used to store heavy, leak-proof items. In addition, to increase the storage space, they can be designed with side gusset.
Description
Bottom Seal bags are made using lay flat tube. The bag forming machine seals the bag and cuts just below the seal. Handles or air holes can be formed prior to the cutting and sealing operation. Bottom sealed bags are only stronger than side seal bags when used for carrying materials that flow, eg. grain, flour, sand, pebbles, asphalt. This is one of the strongest seal types available and are best for heavy duty uses. In fact, they are designed specifically to be used for items that place higher stress on the seal or the side of the bags and are ideal for holding heavyweight materials.
Bottom seal bags are used for heavy duty applications such as:
- Potting mix and pebbles.
- Onions, potatoes and carrots.
- Food bags that require a water-tight seal.
- Bags with side gussets for increased volume.
Side seal bags are manufactured using a heat-sealing bar giving seals around 5mm in width compared with side welds that are produced using a hot knife. Accordingly, side seal bags are used to pack bulkier and heavier products in both the food and non-food industries where watertight seals are essential.
Side sealing is used to make,
- Press seal bags.
- Trade show bags
- Small and medium general-purpose bags.
- Bags with bottom gussets.
